I’ve had a lot of really great mixtapes come into my possession of late so I decided to go for one of those today.
I mentioned last week the brilliant “State of Hip Hop 2012” mix by Jose Bee, part two of which is dropping today I think, and on the other end of the spectrum in deep house territory is the new Melbourne Deepcast mix by Elie Eidelman and today’s choice the Wolfstock guest mix by Graeme Clarke under his The Revenge persona.
As you’ll know Graeme Clarke is one half of the 6th Borough Project who I’ve featured a few times on here, and if you liked the tracks I posted from them you’ll love this.
One of the things I like about both the Revenge and 6th Borough Project is the soulful inflections within their music. It’s very much steeped in the 80’s soul and boogie scene and for me that is a big draw. The mix swings a little bit deeper then the 6th Borough stuff but you’re very much in familiar territory, it starts out with some slow dubby builders, and generally keeps the pace moving at just the right tempo taking in disco, soul and more techy stuff as the mix unfolds.
I’ll leave it there as a mix is a mix is a mix, but I suggest you stick it on, make yourself a nice cup of tea and grab your favourite magazine or book and settle down for an hour and a half of non-intrusive deep melodic music.
I’ve had it on my hard drive for a couple of weeks now, and I finally got around to listening to it this morning on the way into work. You can grab it over on Clarkes soundcloud page, and I suggest you check out a few other things whilst there.
Playlist Monday 9th July 2012
