The Avalanches – The Gimix

I've always had a real passion for mixtapes/dj mixes, making them, listening to them and I reckon pretty much everyone born post 1971 has at some point made a mixtape, or a at the very least a compilation/playlist. In essence that is pretty much what DJ'ing boils down to, selecting a bunch of tracks that take the listener somewhere.

One of my favourite mixtapes ever is this The GI Mix by the Australian production team The Avalanches.

The Avalanches probably need no introduction, responsible for one of THE biggest dance music based albums of the 90's, "Since i left You", and the GI mix is very much along the same lines.

Done as a tour mixtape it takes in a couple of the tracks from the Album ahead of it's release, and very much paints the picture of what would follow on. the track list is an absolute chocolate box of craziness, Old Dirty Bastard, Dela Soul, Roy Ayers, Kid Creole, Hall & Oates, Detroit Grand Pubas and Michael Jackson…. seriously it's about as eclectic as you can get, and is a great, and sometimes difficult listen for all that. (I've put the track list below so you can see how nuts yet brilliant it is)

It genuinely changed my idea of what a mixtape could constitute, probably more so than any other mixtape, so have a listen and see what you think,

Lastly you may have noticed the sites been a bit up and down over the last few days, we're not sure why and have a call in with our hosting service, if you find the site returns an error, please leave it and come back.. we won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
