Asava – Na Pali

We featured Asava a few weeks ago with their brilliant "Avant Garden", and it's pleasing to say they are back with another strong outing in Na Pali.   There is a lot to like in Na Pali, layers of melody and counter melodies and harmony build over an all to brief 4m25 of filter swept Synth Chords, Strings and wonderfully natural sounding drums. It's a lot less glitchy than avant garden and soundwise the synths are very reminiscent of...

Asava – Avant Garden (Acoustic Drums)

One of the most difficult things in modern music (imo) is blending the sound of more traditional instruments (things like guitars and drums) with electronic production techniques and Synths without it sounding disjointed or off kilter. There are a few people that can pull it off well and recently we've featured artists like Sorcerer, Tycho, Kauf, and before that Ratatat.   About a week ago or so I was sent a copy of Avant Garden by Philly based Asava, and both Fourbearsjr and I...

Felix Laband – A True Friend Is Hard To Find

Been doing quite a bit of work this evening so just going to be a quick one. I really haven't listen to much new stuff recently (actually a long time), but wandering through Soundcloud a couple of days ago I came across tonight's track. I have had it on repeat since.   I don't think Laband needs any introduction. I am not an expert on his work but what I know of his I love and this...

Sir Was – a Minor Life

Today I am sticking up a truly beautiful track that I have been playing to death, it's hypnotic nature accompanying my hazy, sunny drives to work.   a Minor Life by sir Was.    I believe this is his first release on the always superb City Slang label for Joel Wästberg, aka sir Was, and what a debut. His bio states he grew up in the tiny village of Frillesås on the western coast of Sweden, had an early career as...

Big Mister Doom – Receipts

Back in the mid-00's it was almost impossible to avoid the glitch heavy sound of artists like ediT/Glitch Mob, Prefuse73, Chocolate Industries and artists of a similar ilk.   That Glitchy beat heavy was a real meeting point for so many genres; Hip Hop because of the beats and so often cuts and vocal samples, Electronica and House because of the mood and sound set as well as the more experimental listeners due to the glitches and heavy processing. Labels...

Prefuse 73 – Desks Pencils Bottles

Have to say today’s post is a bit of an odd one. not musically, odd in that i seem to have not taken the time to post it before. Why is it odd? well mainly because it is one of my favourite electronica tracks of all time. I’ve certainly featured Prefuse 73 before, Storms Return is also a favourite of mine, but the first track i ever heard by Monsieur Herren was Desk Pencils Bottles....

Lenient Tales – Our First Year

It's been a crazy few weeks, and despite our best attempts posts have been sporadic, that means things haven't always been posted when they should and, well you know the drill…. so i'm using today to catch up on an LP i should have featured two weeks ago when it first came out and that is, the Lenient Tales – Our First Year Compilation, Lenient Tales have been releasing some amazing house based music for a...

Kalima – Tuti feat. Satori

I had a day off today, and took it as an opportunity to catch up with a lot of music that i've been sat on. So something that jumped out at me as I mooched around with music in the back ground was the Satori EP on Under Your Skin Records. Not going to lie, I was sent a promo of this and had been woefully lazy in getting around to really giving it a chance. It’s...
