To be honest i could get away with writing nothing and just posting tonight’s track. Such is the magnitude of this song and the band who released it. For some reason, this song seems to come on via random more than others when i am cruising to work and every time it does…i go a little bit bonkers. In fact, i still get the same emotion/thrill when i hear as i did the first time. Why? Because it is utterly immense.
Before i started writing this post i checked how many times we had featured New Order and was surprised to find it has only been once – one of my first posts which was a b-side of theirs: Best & Marsh. I think we have posted an Electronic track but considering how much we both like them i am surprised they haven’t appeared more. Saying that, when you search New Order on our blog you get a long list of posts where we have dropped their name to explain or describe another track – such is their influence (obvious i know).
This is one of my favourite tracks of all time – and you can keep Blue Monday – my favourite New Order track. It is top to bottom genius. The bass (Hookies lead is just amazing), the synths, drumming, drum programming, the melodies. But possibly the best thing is Barney’s lyrics – they just perfectly capture that emotional turmoil of strained relationships and carries one of the best lines in the chorus. “Everytime i see you falling, I get down on my knees and pray. I’m waiting for that final moment you say the words that I can’t say”…Beat that. Plus the opening line is immense too. Damn i love New Order.
