A quick one tonight. I have loaded Up a load more stuff on the old, usb stick and was flicking through, when stuck in traffic, when this beauty came on.
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Monkees and many will know that Mike Nesmith released some excellent country rock stuff around the time of Gram Parsons, Gene Clark etc. He wrote great tracks like Different Drum. This late Monkees track showed where he was headed and is a fantastic bit of country pop with a touch of funk. The bass is great, his vocal is great and the horn section is off the scale large.
I always get a bit carried away when I hear this track, mimicking the drumming and trying to replicate Nesmith's drawl. I must have looked like a lunatic smashing the steering wheel as I sat in Maltese traffic. Ace.
