We don't feature any where near enough Drum and Bass as I would like on this blog, but there are only so many days in the week and our listening habits vary on a daily basis.
So let me rectify that today by featuring the sickeningly good Emerald by Estonian Electronic artist Laktic on the ever excellent Cut Records.
Emerald is a deep cut, Liquid D&B but not as you may know it, no jump up snappy floor filling beat. No this is all soft drums low in the mix driving the melody along, full of atmospheric effects – heavily reverbed brass stabs and filtered delay on the drums making the track sound energetic without ever being busy – it all blends perfectly to pull together images of cold and clear urban nights, the perfect soundscape to a long metro train ride..
As you'll know i've been a fan of Cut Records for a while, I think i feature a track from the label pretty regular due to their monthly release policy, but i'd sat on the Laktic EP for a few weeks now, just not getting around to featuring it, the EP is solid as a whole, and while Emerald is certainly the stand out track the electronic dub of Awakening Dub, Rotation Dub and Another Day in Paradise all make it an EP well worth picking up.
