Damn, this weeks going really slow and it’s even a short week with Easter. Plus the weathers turned cold again and getting up in the mornings is difficult.
So as i've felt so lethargic i've been listening to a lot of DJ mixes, and today i listened to the brilliant set by LA Producer Henry Pope from the Source Maui Festival.
A while ago i featured another set by Monsieur Pope on Interesting Blends and it proved really popular, since then i've been following Henry on Soundcloud and he's sent me a few teasers from upcoming projects and releases which i’m really excited about. Anyway, about a week ago this landed in my inbox, went straight on the Mp3 Player and has been on rotation ever since both on my journeys and at home – you've not seen anything as cute as my 2 year old son bouncing to Pretty Girl Shake.
I really like DJ's that can mash genres without losing the energy of a dance set and without it becoming a mess to listen to. People think Dj’ing is easy but it's really hard to do this style well, and his previous effort the Root Society set was a perfect example of how to build multi genre set. The Source Festival set follows on from that, except it’s a lot more polished and contains a few more of his own Edits and productions – like that Fugees and Ludacris reworks but they are asides in a big mix that takes in some absoloute gems like the incredible Machine Drum Remix of Mux Mool and Dj Icey – Pretty Girl Shake, in fact there are just too many to mention so the full track list is below the soundcloud player.
Anyway, i put it on as i sat on the train and my dark foul mood at going to work lightened somewhat drastically.Overall it's a great listen, taking in Hip Hop, Bass Music, Trap, Miami Bass and Indie.
