Didn't have a commute today as i was off work. I had a lovely day at home instead. So, today is a freebie which often results in me going to a classic, but after classics week last week felt the need to go for something that has just caught my ear. And that would be the Lockjaw EP from Flume and Chet Faker.
Aapie has posted about Chet Faker before, but i think this is the first time we have mentioned Flume, aka Harley Streten (although we have stuck up a lot of stuff and i really don't keep track). Both Australians, they got together for a week of recording and this 3 track ep is the result: A trio of vocal electronic tracks that weave in a number of genres but are held together by really nice production, vocals and songwriting.
"This Song Is Not About A Girl" is a great example of this: a lovely uptempo track based around a great song structure and at times slightly off beat drum programming and moments of dischord, which ensures an edge that makes the quite melodic track a touch more menacing and raw. Then, about 3/4 of the way through, i'd say slightly unexpectedly, it goes big room, half time to finish. A lovely track from a great EP.
