I have been on holiday for a couple of weeks so coming back to work has been…interesting. But this morning my commute was a short DLR ride to the office. The mornings are lighter now and it was nice to stroll to the station with it being crisp but not cold. The other thing was, I actually knew what I would be listening to on route and that meant I was already in a positive frame of mind.
So why so positive? Well, I am pushing on a bit these days and quite often when I listen to music I can be left a bit….flat… Maybe I have listened to too much music and can't see the woods for the trees, maybe i am just miserable, but sometimes things can come along that make you think….hello. The new dj koze album did just that and I gleefully turned it up and headed off.
Dj Koze is known to most so I won't go into his bio, but his new album Amygdala is one of the best electronica/dance albums I have come across. The range of genres covered matches his background, from messed up Hip Hop, to Techno, to deep electronic House. All underpinned by great inventiveness, humour and most importantly songwriting. He also ropes in class acts such as Caribou, Matthew dear and Milosh. It is a great album from start to finish and it was a difficult to pick a track, however, i thought I should stay true to the essence of the blog and pick a track I listened to on the commute (which was the first four from the album) and so I have plumped for the gorgeous deep house of Nices Wölkchen (which features. Apparat). I have said enough so I am not going to bang on anymore and leave you to check it out and see what I mean.
