Dirty Projectors – Dance For You

Just a very quick post tonight. Didn’t really have a commute this morning and just had a long drive down south, so thought I would take the opportunity to draw your attention to The Dirty Projectors (if you have never heard of them) and a track from their new album (if you have). To be honest you probably have heard of them. I remember them as a one of a number of bands that came out of a well-documented Brooklyn scene a few years ago and since then the band, who are helmed by David Longstreth,  have become exceptionally well thought of. The thing about the Dirty Projectors though is that they are not really like anyone else and don’t really sound like anyone else. I only properly got into them a few albums in, but I think they are tremendous. They bring together so many styles, African guitar, R&B, Doo Wop, just to name a few, and their output always sounds fresh. Their last main album, Bitter Orca was superb and I am really looking forward to their next, ‘Swing Lo Magellan’.

This track is from that album and is great example of this mix of styles, kind of African sounding guitar, pop melodies just off centre and David Longstreths voice going on a bit of a winding road. It really is great and, if you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out their stuff.
