Talking Heads – This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)

When I decided to do todays post I had to check back through the archives because i just couldn't believe neither of us had blogged it at any point. Yes, it's a chestnut, but for good reason as it might just be one of the best songs ever written (actually no might about it – it is). It's certainly a point where Fourbearsjr and myself's musical taste really first converged, as kids we both listened to...

Danny & The Champions Of The World – (Never Stop Building) That Old Space Rocket

Something a little different tonight but honestly, i think this song is impossible to dislike. Since a good friend of mine (John) came to stay in Malta over the summer and played me this track, i have been hammering it on and off on the way to work. So if anyone sees me screaming like a maniac in my car on the roads of Malta, its probably because i am playing this track.   I honestly...

Kauf – Key to Life

There are some tracks that just define moments for you, and lately life has been moving pretty fast. As such I'm glad it's the weekend and I can enjoy the last few days of summer. Sat on the terrace, listening to beautiful summery music.   On my playlist for the last few days and perfect for these moments is the latest track Key to Life from a favourite of ours Kauf.    As I've said we've featured...

The Monkees – Listen To The Band

A quick one tonight. I have loaded Up a load more stuff on the old, usb stick and was flicking through, when stuck in traffic, when this beauty came on.   I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the Monkees and many will know that Mike Nesmith released some excellent country rock stuff around the time of Gram Parsons, Gene Clark etc. He wrote great tracks like Different Drum. This late Monkees track showed where he was headed and...

RATATAT – CREAM ON CHROME

I've been re-visiting a lot of older music over the weekend and stumbled upon Cream on Chrome by Ratatat again.   There was always something about this track that reminded me of Talking Heads, which you'll know is one of our favourite groups around here. Maybe it was the beat, it's almost certainly the guitar licks, but it's also the repetitiveness of the groove that reminds me of them.   And that repetitiveness was always something that i loved about...

England Dan & John Ford Coley – Love is the Answer

I got a new set of headphones at the weekend, I actually had broken my regular set a couple of weeks ago, so my listening has been fairly limited to when the poxy things would work (after much fiddling). As such today was the first time in a while I was able to listen to music all the way to and back from work – and it was great doing so.   It would have been...

John Martyn – May You Never

So, I am going to go with something a little different today. But when you get the chance to post a track like this then you have to take it. I had a really long day. Up in the night with my boy and girl, then up at 4.45 to catch a train to London. By the time I was driving home at about 8pm I was a bit tired and emotional, and then today’s...
