Buddy Peace – Sons of Bitches

First up happy New Year from all of us at TWTW, we trust you had a good one? We certainly did, two weeks of doing absolutely f*ck all can work wonders on a mans disposition. but we're back now and I thought we'd kick off with an absolutely killer album of deep dark hip hop from veteran beat smith Buddy Peace:

Buddy Peace – Sons of Bitches

It's not often we'll feature an album but this is something special. The basic premise is that Mr Peace has taken the legendary Miles Davis Bitches Brew/on the corner Sessions and built a new beat tape out of it. Now Buddy has long been producing some top quality beats but he's excelled himself on this one.

If you don't know the Miles Davis sessions were Davis stepped away from more traditional Jazz and harnessed electric instruments, bags of post production and effects and essentially built an album out of very early sampling techniques/tape editing etc… so in some ways this beat tape by Buddy see's the whole process come full circle.

It's hard to pick out an individual track, so i'm not going to. But it's a genuinely fantastic listen, a rel sit down and let it wash over you listen, dark and moody, lots of melody and shed loads of sample chopping, this must have been one of those occasions were the producer thought what have i started about half way through, but it's come out great and you should buy it if you can –  it's available on Buddy Peaces Bandcamp page, where you can listen and buy.
