Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band – P.I.M.P.

Just a quick one tonight, but i wanted to share a track from one of the albums i have been slaughtering over the summer (i am still on leave by the way so still on the freebie express).

The album 55 by the Bacao Rhythmn & Steel Band has soundtracked a number of BBQs and afternoons by the pool. Its perfect for it considering its an album of funk covers driven by some excellent steel drum action. This is my first foray into their work and while i think the album is relatively new, i believe this cover of P.I.M.P isn't. These type of covers albums can get a bit tiresome after a few tracks but this one is top top to bottom brilliant. I guess the key thing is that their mastery of funk (they are a side project of the German group the Mighty Macambos) drives it and the steel drums add and on some tracks are less prominent.

This track suits the style brilliantly and you wont be able to fight the urge to nod your head or grab a drink. Brilliant stuff.
